Onimusha contains dozens of collectible items, and many of them can be permanently missed if you do not know where and when to look. Some become unavailable after certain story events, while others are well-hidden in optional areas.
Types of Missable Content
Missable items fall into several categories: (1) Chapter-locked items that become unavailable after you complete the chapter and move to the next area, (2) One-time-only items that disappear if you leave the area without collecting them, (3) Choice-based items that you only get if you make a specific decision during a story event, and (4) NG+ exclusive items that only appear on your second playthrough onward.
What Is Not Missable
Before diving into the missable items, it is important to know what you do NOT need to worry about. Basic upgrade materials, common consumables, and most story-related items are not missable -- you will get them through normal progression. Chests with common items respawn in NG+ and can be collected again. The missable items are the rare, unique, or completion-necessary ones.
Completion Tracking
The game tracks 100% completion through the collection menu, but it does not tell you what you are missing or where to find it. For 100% completion you need: all 25 demon artifacts, all 10 costumes, all 8 hidden boss trophies, all 15 weapon upgrades, and all 5 soul vessels. Approximately 30% of these items are missable on a first playthrough.

| Costumes | 10 | 3 | 2 |

Chapters 1-3 Missable Checklist
The early chapters have several easily missable items because players are still learning the game mechanics and may not think to explore every corner. These are the items you can permanently miss in the first three chapters.
Chapter 1 Missables
Old Photo (Demon Artifact #1): In the starting village, go to the second floor of the burning house on the west side. You have to enter through the back window and climb the ladder inside. The photo is on a table next to a chest. This becomes unavailable after the village is destroyed at the end of Chapter 1.
Iron Key: Found in the well behind the blacksmith's shop. You need to jump down the well (it looks like you will take damage but you do not). The Iron Key unlocks the blacksmith's shop where you can find your first weapon upgrade. This is technically not permanently missable because the key respawns, but missing it means you cannot upgrade your weapon in Chapter 1.
Lucky Cat Figurine (Accessory): On the roof of the largest house in the village. You reach it by climbing the ladder on the east side of the house and then jumping across to the roof. The Lucky Cat increases item drop rate by 15% and is one of the best early-game accessories.
Chapter 2 Missables
Fountain Coin (Demon Artifact #3): The red fountain in the West Area garden. You need to throw 100 red souls into the fountain (interact with it 5 times, costing 20 souls each time) to get the coin. This is the same fountain that hides the Crimson Blade boss. The coin is a separate reward from the boss and can be obtained without fighting the boss.
Broken Mask (Demon Artifact #5): In the hidden room behind the sliding screen in the mansion's east wing. The sliding screen looks like a wall but can be pushed. The mask is on a shelf inside. This room is easy to miss because there is no indication that the screen moves.
Chapter 3 Missables
Soul Earrings (Accessory): Found in the hidden room behind the sliding bookshelf in the library. You need to pull the correct book (the red one on the middle shelf) to open the passage. The Soul Earrings increase red soul gain by 20% and are essential for efficient soul farming.
Ancient Scroll (Demon Artifact #7): In the cave system beneath the mansion. After the second waterfall, there is a hidden path behind the waterfall on the left side. The scroll is on an altar at the end of the path. Many players rush through the caves and never see this path.
Chapters 4-7 Missable Checklist
Mid-game chapters have some of the most valuable missable items, including unique accessories and weapons. These are the items to watch for in Chapters 4 through 7.
Chapter 4 Missables
Protection Amulet (Accessory): The single most important missable accessory. Found in the East Area mansion's basement, in a hidden safe behind the portrait of the old man. You need to examine the portrait three times to reveal the safe. The Protection Amulet reduces all incoming damage by 20% and is game-changing for hard mode. This becomes permanently missable after the mansion collapses at the end of Chapter 4.
Demon Bell (Demon Artifact #10): In the garden shed behind the mansion. You need the Garden Key (found in the kitchen) to unlock the shed. The Demon Bell is a collectible that also serves as a clue for the Shadow Monk optional boss later.
Chapter 5 Missables
Raizen (Lightning Katana): While the Raizen is not technically missable (you can buy it later), you can find it early in a hidden room in the Temple catacombs. The room is behind a false wall that you need to roll into to break. Finding it early gives you a powerful weapon 2-3 chapters before you would normally get it.
Gold Coin Purse (Upgrade Material): On the highest beam of the temple main hall. You need to do a wall-jump combo to reach it (jump against one wall, then jump off that wall to the beam). The gold purse contains 500 souls and a rare upgrade material.
Chapters 6-7 Missables
Shadow Cloak (Accessory): Rewarded for defeating the Shadow Monk optional boss in Chapter 6. The boss itself is missable if you do not meet the unlock condition (50 kills without taking damage in the chapter). The Shadow Cloak increases backstab damage by 50% and makes you harder to detect.
Raikiri (Lightning Dagger): Rewarded for defeating the Thunder Beast hidden boss in Chapter 7. Like the Shadow Monk, this boss is missable if you do not find the hidden rooftop path.
Chapters 8-12 Missable Checklist
Late game missables include some of the rarest and most powerful items in the game. By this point in the story, you should be comfortable with exploration, but it is still easy to miss these if you are rushing.
Chapter 8-9 Missables
Wind Crystal (Demon Artifact #15): In the Castle's clock tower. You need to stop the clock at exactly 3:15 by interacting with the gears in the correct order. The crystal appears in the base of the clock when the time is correct. This puzzle is never explained and the crystal is easily missed.
Speed Boots (Accessory): Found in the Castle's treasure vault. The vault is behind a hidden door in the throne room. The door is activated by stepping on the correct floor tile (the one with the dragon emblem) while facing the throne. Speed Boots increase movement speed by 15% and dodge distance by 20%.
Chapter 10-11 Missables
Dancer's Costume: Rewarded for defeating the Phantom Dancer optional boss in Chapter 10. The boss requires finding all five ghost story scrolls first, and the scrolls themselves are missable if you do not explore the Garden District thoroughly.
Ogre Gauntlets (Weapon/Accessory): Rewarded for defeating the Iron Ogre hidden boss in Chapter 11. The boss is behind a false wall in the underground forge area.
Chapter 12 Endgame Missables
Oni Soul Vessel (Permanent Upgrade): In the final dungeon, there is a secret room before the final boss. The room is accessed by jumping down a hole in the floor in the corridor before the boss room (go against the wall on the left side and you will find a hidden path leading to the hole). The Oni Soul Vessel permanently increases your maximum Oni gauge by 1 bar. This is the only way to get a 7th Oni gauge bar (the normal cap is 6 from upgrades).
Final Demon Artifact #25: This artifact is only obtainable if you have collected all 24 other artifacts before reaching the final boss. If you have, it appears in the boss arena after the fight. If you are missing any, it does not appear and you have to wait for NG+ to get it.
NG+ Exclusive Collectibles
New Game+ adds several exclusive collectibles that do not appear in the first playthrough. These are some of the rarest items in the game and are required for 100% completion.
NG+ Exclusive Demon Artifacts
Three demon artifacts are exclusive to NG+: Artifact #23 (Oni Mask Fragment), Artifact #24 (Demon Sealing Stone), and Artifact #25 (Oni God Tablet). These are found in the same locations as some regular artifacts but only appear on NG+ playthroughs, replacing the NG version of the artifact.
The Oni Mask Fragment is found in the starting village's shrine (only appears in NG+). The Demon Sealing Stone is found at the bottom of the well (you need to dive down, which requires the Diving ability unlocked in NG+). The Oni God Tablet appears at the final boss arena only if you have all other 24 artifacts, as mentioned above.
NG+ Exclusive Costumes
Two costumes are exclusive to NG+: the Samurai Costume (unlocked by beating NG+ on normal difficulty) and the Oni Costume (unlocked by beating NG+ on hard difficulty). These are automatically added to your collection when you meet the conditions -- you do not need to find them in the world.
NG+ Exclusive Weapons and Accessories
The Demon Sword is technically an NG+ exclusive since it is obtained from the Demon Lord Nobunaga post-game boss, which only unlocks after beating the game. The Oni Ring accessory is also NG+ exclusive -- it is found in the Dark Realm on floor 40, which is only accessible in NG+.
There is also one hidden NG+ exclusive weapon: the Phantom Blade. It is found in a chest in the final dungeon's secret room, but only if you are playing NG+ and have already obtained the Demon Sword. The Phantom Blade has unique stats and a special attack animation.
Permanently Missable Upgrades
Some upgrades are permanently missable, meaning you cannot get them later in the same playthrough if you miss them. These are the most important items to track because they affect your character power permanently.
Soul Vessel Missables
Out of the 5 Soul Vessels (permanent soul capacity upgrades), 2 are missable. Soul Vessel #2 is found in the West Area garden's underground passage (Chapter 2) and becomes unavailable after the garden floods at the end of Chapter 2. Soul Vessel #4 is found in the East Area mansion's attic (Chapter 4) and becomes unavailable after the mansion burns down.
Missing a Soul Vessel permanently reduces your maximum soul capacity by 500 for the rest of the playthrough. While this is not game-breaking (you can still hold plenty of souls for upgrades), it is annoying for completionists and makes long farming sessions slightly less efficient.
Health Upgrade Missables
There are two permanent health upgrades that can be missed. The first is in the Castle dungeon (Chapter 9) -- you find it by solving the prison cell puzzle. If you progress past the dungeon without solving it, the area becomes inaccessible. The second is from the Iron Ogre boss (Ogre Heart, 10% drop rate) -- technically not missable since you can fight the boss as many times as you want in NG+, but it is rare.
Missable Weapon Upgrades
Some weapon upgrade materials are only available in specific chapters. The Fire Essence (needed to upgrade fire weapons past level 3) is found in the Chapter 5 boss arena after the fight. If you leave the arena without picking it up, it is gone for the rest of the playthrough (you can buy it later from a merchant but at a high soul cost of 1,000 souls).
Collectible Completion and Farming Tips
For players going for 100% completion, here are some tips to make the process smoother and avoid missing anything important.
The Chapter Save Strategy
The best way to ensure you do not miss anything is to create a save at the beginning of each chapter, then check a collectible guide before moving to the next chapter. If you realize you missed something, you can reload the chapter start save and go get it. This is much better than realizing 10 hours later that you missed an item in Chapter 2.
NG+ Collection Carryover
Importantly, collectibles do NOT carry over between playthroughs in terms of collection tracking. Each new playthrough starts with a fresh collection. However, items you have collected in previous playthroughs are marked as "previously collected" in the collection menu, so you can track what you have found across all playthroughs. The 100% completion achievement requires finding all items in a single playthrough.
Efficient Cleanup in NG+
If you missed items on your first playthrough, NG+ is your chance to clean up. Since you start with better gear and more mobility, exploration is faster and easier. The optimal NG+ cleanup route is: (1) Play through normally, collecting everything you know about, (2) At the end of each chapter, check the collection menu to see what you are still missing, (3) If something is missing from an earlier chapter, use chapter select to go back and get it (chapter select is unlocked after beating the game once).
