What the Oni Armaments Are

In Onimusha: Warlords, the Oni armaments are the weapons and tools the Oni grant or make available to Samanosuke over the course of the game. They fall into three groups: the Oni Gauntlet itself, which is the soul-absorbing artifact on his wrist; the three elemental weapons -- Raizan, Enryuu, and Shippuu -- each with its own magic; and the ranged tools, the Normal Bow and the Matchlock. The hidden Bishamon Sword rounds out the full set as the ultimate armament.

Each armament is acquired at a specific story point or location, and several are guarded by boss fights. None of the elemental weapons can be missed, because they are tied to mandatory progression, but the Bishamon Sword and the Matchlock are optional and easy to overlook. This guide gives the location and acquisition condition for each armament so you can complete Samanosuke's arsenal.

Remember that Kaede uses a separate set of daggers and thrown weapons and cannot wield Samanosuke's Oni armaments, so these locations apply only to him.

Elemental Weapon Locations

Raizan (Thunder): The first elemental armament, found in a cave shortly after Samanosuke receives the Oni Gauntlet from the twelve Oni. It is on the main story path and impossible to miss. Its thunder magic stuns enemies and is your earliest spell.

Enryuu (Fire): Obtained in Guildenstern's laboratory, after Samanosuke discovers the genma scientist experimenting on humans. Guildenstern sends the creature Reynaldo to fight him; defeat Reynaldo and the Enryuu is yours. Its fire magic is your strongest area-damage option and a favorite for boss fights.

Shippuu (Wind): Earned by defeating Marcellus on the roof of the keep, one of the game's tougher story fights. The Shippuu's wind magic has wide coverage and is prized for clearing crowds. Arrive with upgraded gear and healing items, because Marcellus punishes reckless play.

All three elemental armaments are story-mandatory and acquired in this order, so you cannot finish the game without them. Their locations double as progression milestones, so if you are missing one, you simply have not reached its story beat yet.

Ranged Weapons and the Gauntlet

The Oni Gauntlet is granted by the twelve Oni early in the game, during the sequence where Samanosuke is unconscious after the encounter with Osric. It is not a weapon you equip but the artifact that enables soul absorption, and it is the foundation of all of Samanosuke's progression. Without it, none of the weapon upgrades would be possible.

The Normal Bow is your starting ranged armament, available early for picking off distant enemies, hitting switches, and softening targets before they close in. It uses arrows, so it is a utility tool rather than a primary damage source. Grab arrows whenever you find them to keep it stocked.

The Matchlock is a rarer, stronger ranged option found later in the game. It deals more damage per shot than the bow but consumes scarcer ammunition, so reserve it for high-value targets or awkward angles where melee is unsafe. Like the bow, it is situational; your elemental weapons remain your primary armaments.

Keep both ranged tools ready for utility, but funnel all your red souls into the elemental weapons, since the ranged armaments do not upgrade.

The Bishamon Sword Location

The Bishamon Sword is the final and most powerful armament, and it is the only one that is both optional and hidden. It is located at the bottom of the Dark Realm, the survival mini-game accessed through an Oni shrine after you complete the main story. You must descend through waves of Genma and reach the lowest level to claim it; there is no other way to obtain the sword.

Because the Dark Realm is a long endurance challenge with no ordinary save points, do not attempt it under-leveled. Bring a maxed or near-maxed elemental weapon, a full stock of healing items, and patience. Use magic and charged attacks to manage waves, absorb every soul between fights to sustain yourself, and conserve your strongest options for the deepest, most aggressive waves.

Once claimed, the Bishamon Sword outclasses every elemental armament in damage and carries its own powerful magic, completing Samanosuke's full arsenal. It carries into Ultimate Mode, making a powered-up second playthrough even more dominant. For completionists, it is the last armament needed to consider the collection complete.
