Onimusha: Warlords pits you against a fixed roster of bosses in a set order, and each one teaches a different combat habit. The broad sequence is Osric early, Reynaldo in the laboratory, Marcellus on the keep roof, Hecuba in the mid-late game, an enhanced Marcellus near the end, and finally Fortinbras, the king of demons. Mini-bosses and the Genma that impersonates Samanosuke round out the tougher encounters.
The single rule that carries every boss fight is to bait, dodge, and punish the recovery. Bosses telegraph their big attacks, and the safe window comes right after they commit. Land a charged strike or an Issen counter in that window, then retreat. Avoid mashing combos, because most bosses out-trade string attacks and will chip you to death.
Bring the right tools: a maxed or near-maxed weapon, a full magic meter for opening burst, and a stock of healing items. If you arrive under-prepared, retreat and farm souls and items first. The per-boss notes below give the safe windows and best elements for each fight.
Boss Order and General Strategy
Onimusha: Warlords pits you against a fixed roster of bosses in a set order, and each one teaches a different combat habit. The broad sequence is Osric early, Reynaldo in the laboratory, Marcellus on the keep roof, Hecuba in the mid-late game, an enhanced Marcellus near the end, and finally Fortinbras, the king of demons. Mini-bosses and the Genma that impersonates Samanosuke round out the tougher encounters.

Early Bosses: Osric and Reynaldo
Osric is the gigantic Genma that emerges early in the game and your first real boss test. His attacks are slow and heavily telegraphed, which makes him the perfect teacher for the bait-and-punish rhythm. Circle-strafe around him, dodge his lunges, and punish the long recovery after each swing. He is not element-weak in any special way, so use whatever weapon you have upgraded most; charged attacks stagger him reliably.
Reynaldo appears in Guildenstern's laboratory and guards the Enryuu. He is faster and more aggressive than Osric, so respect his reach and do not get greedy with combos. Bait his attacks, dodge sideways, and counter with charged hits. Once you claim the Enryuu, its fire magic becomes your default burst option for the next several bosses, so this fight is also a gear milestone.
For both early bosses, keep your health topped with yellow souls between exchanges and save your herbs for emergencies. If you are taking too much damage, the issue is usually over-committing on offense -- back off and wait for cleaner windows.
Mid Bosses: Marcellus and Hecuba
Marcellus on the roof is the game's first difficulty spike and guards the Shippuu. He hits hard, moves quickly, and punishes reckless aggression, so patience is mandatory. Bait his lunges, dodge, and land a single charged elemental hit during his recovery. Enryuu's fire magic is a strong choice here for burst damage. Do not try to out-press him; let him attack first and respond. Defeating him earns the Shippuu, so arrive prepared and treat the win as a major progression milestone.
Hecuba is the insect-like Genma who abducts Yumemaru. Her fight rewards ranged pressure and magic: when she exposes her weak point, unload with Enryuu's fire magic and thrown or ranged attacks, then back off when she goes on the offensive. Watch for her area attacks and keep moving so you are never caught stationary. Magic management matters here, so enter with a full meter and refill from any minions she summons.
Both mid-bosses test your resource discipline. If you burn through herbs, you are probably standing in too long; shorten your punish windows and let dodging do the defensive work.
Final Bosses: Enhanced Marcellus and Fortinbras
The enhanced Marcellus near the end of the game is a tougher version of the roof fight -- faster, more aggressive, and more damaging. Apply the same patience, but tighten your windows: punish only the safest recoveries and never commit to a full combo. Lead with your strongest magic, then fall back to charged strikes. Bring your best weapon and a full inventory; this fight is a common wall for under-prepared players.
Fortinbras, the final boss, is a multi-phase endurance test. In the first phase, respect his reach and punish the recovery after his big attacks with charged hits and magic. The fight's scripted climax -- where his blood activates the gauntlet and Samanosuke becomes an Onimusha -- delivers the power to finish him, so stay alive and keep chipping until that moment arrives. Stab him in his central eye to end it.
For both finale fights, arrive with maxed health, magic, and items, and lead with your strongest elemental magic -- Enryuu for damage, Raizan to stun when a boss gets aggressive. Patience and resource management win the finale; aggression loses it. Clear them and you have mastered Warlords.
