How Oni Magic Works

Oni magic in Warlords is tied directly to your elemental weapons. Each of Samanosuke's three elemental swords -- Raizan, Enryuu, and Shippuu -- carries its own magic spell, and casting it consumes the blue magic meter displayed alongside your health. You cannot cast a weapon's magic unless that weapon is equipped, so choosing a weapon is also choosing a spell.

The magic meter is refilled by collecting blue souls dropped by defeated enemies and absorbed through the Oni Gauntlet. Because the meter is finite and refills only from combat, magic is a managed resource rather than a free spam tool. The meter can also be expanded with Magic Jewels found in the world, which raise your maximum magic and let you cast more or stronger spells before refilling.

Upgrading a weapon at an Oni shrine improves both its melee damage and its magic spell, so investment in a weapon is investment in its spell. A fully upgraded weapon casts a noticeably stronger version of its magic, which is why concentrating souls on one element pays off.

Raizan, Enryuu, and Shippuu Spells

Raizan (Thunder): A fast, stunning bolt of lightning. Raizan's magic is the most utility-focused of the three -- it stuns enemies and interrupts attacks, making it excellent against agile foes and for controlling groups. Its low cast time means you can weave it between melee strikes. Use Raizan when you need to stop an enemy mid-action or lock down a pack before it surrounds you.

Enryuu (Fire): A fiery area attack that deals heavy damage, especially to clustered enemies. Enryuu's magic is the go-to for raw boss damage and for melting groups that bunch up in corridors. It tends to be the most efficient spell for burning down a single tough target, which is why many players max it first.

Shippuu (Wind): A wide, sweeping wind attack with broad coverage. Shippuu excels at clearing mobs across a wide arc, knocking down or killing several enemies at once. It is less focused than Enryuu on single targets but superb for crowd control in open areas.

Bishamon Sword magic: The ultimate weapon carries its own powerful magic, generally the strongest spell available once unlocked from the Dark Realm.

Managing Magic with Blue Souls

Because magic refills only from blue souls, smart soul management is the difference between a steady stream of spells and an empty meter at the worst moment. The Oni Gauntlet absorbs all nearby souls automatically, but you can influence which souls appear by how you fight: tougher enemies and larger Genma tend to drop more blue souls, so prioritizing them keeps your magic stocked.

A key habit is to top off your meter before boss arenas. If you are near full magic and full health heading into a tough fight, you can open with your strongest spell and then refill from the boss's minion waves or the boss's own soul drops. Conversely, if you arrive empty, you lose your burst-damage option at the start.

Upgrade your maximum magic with Magic Jewels whenever you find one. A larger meter means a bigger opening burst and more room to store souls between fights. Pair this with a fully upgraded weapon and a single cast can clear an entire wave, conserving both magic and health for the fights that matter.

Best Magic for Bosses and Crowds

Matching the right spell to the situation is the core of Oni magic strategy. For bosses, lead with Enryuu's fire magic for maximum single-target damage, then refill from any minions or soul drops the boss produces. Time your casts for the boss's recovery windows so the animation is never wasted on a dodging target. If a boss is aggressive and hard to pin down, switch to Raizan to stun it and create a safe opening for melee.

For crowds, Shippuu's wide arc is usually the most efficient single cast, clearing multiple enemies at once. In tight corridors where enemies bunch up, Enryuu's area effect does similar work with more damage. Reserve Raizan for crowds that include fast, interrupt-heavy enemies you need to lock down before they swarm.

Above all, never sit on a full magic meter. If the meter is maxed, blue souls are wasted, so spend magic freely on the current fight and let the next encounter refill it. Aggressive spell use keeps your momentum high and your resource loop efficient.
