All Soul Types Explained

The Oni Gauntlet absorbs five types of souls from defeated enemies. Each type serves a specific purpose in your character progression:

Understanding when and where to farm each soul type is essential for efficient progression through the game.

Soul Absorption Mechanics

How Souls Appear

When you defeat an enemy, souls are released and float near the location of the kill. The type and quantity of souls depend on the enemy type and how they were defeated:

• Normal kill: Releases 1-3 small souls (mostly red and green)
• Issen kill: Releases 3x more souls, including rare types
• Magic kill: Releases 2x more souls, biased toward the weapon element
• Oni Mode kill: Releases maximum souls automatically, no absorption needed

How to Collect Souls

Hold the absorb button to pull nearby souls toward you. The absorption range is approximately 4 character lengths when holding the button. Souls disappear after approximately 10 seconds, so collect them quickly.

Red Soul Farming Guide

Red souls are the most common type and are needed for weapon upgrades. Here are the best farming methods:

The Dark Realm is the most efficient location for red soul farming. Each floor completion awards bonus souls on top of enemy drops. Use Issen to triple your soul yield per kill.

Blue Soul Farming Guide

Blue souls are less common and are needed for magic gauge upgrades. They are dropped by stronger enemies:

Blue souls are the bottleneck for magic gauge upgrades. Prioritize the Dark Realm floors 6-10 for efficient blue soul collection. Large blue souls (worth 3-5 small souls) appear on Dark Realm floors 10 and above.

Purple Soul Farming Guide

Purple souls are the rarest type and fill the Oni gauge for Oni Mode activation. Farming methods:

Purple souls are too rare to farm reliably. Instead, rely on boss defeats to fill your Oni gauge. Each boss drops a purple soul that fills the entire gauge. Save Oni Mode for when you truly need it.

Soul Farming Optimization Tips

1. Always use Issen: Issen kills release 3x more souls than normal kills. This is the single most impactful farming optimization.
2. Enter the Dark Realm early: Access it as soon as possible to start farming efficiently. Even floors 1-5 provide far more souls than story mode.
3. Cluster enemies before killing: Group enemies together, then use Oni Mode or chain Issen to kill them all at once for a soul explosion.
4. Prioritize rare souls: When multiple soul types are on screen, collect purple and blue first, then red and green. Rare souls disappear just as fast as common ones.
5. Farm during Kaede sections: Although Kaede cannot absorb souls, enemies defeated during her sections still drop them. Switch areas and return as Samanosuke to collect them.
6. Use magic attacks for crowd kills: Magic attacks kill multiple enemies simultaneously, releasing a large cluster of souls at once. This is efficient for both farming and combat.
